LIGHTS, LAUGHTER, AND LEVITY
Sun., Dec. 13 at 6:00 p.m.
Join your Kohelet community on Zoom on Sunday, December 13th, 6:00 p.m. as we celebrate Chanukah together. We'll each light our own menorahs online as we usher in our festive party with songs with Jonathan, a fun and intriguing online board game that anyone can play, and a l'chaim with spirits either hard or soft. BYOL (Bring your own latkes if you wish.)
While not necessary, it would be good to get an RSVP to know how many to expect for the game.
Hope you can join us! Just let us know if you'll be there (or show up last minute, which would also be fine.)
Be a mensch and don't miss out on the merriment over menorahs and music in honor of the Maccabees.
If you’re interested in playing the word game CodeNames online at the Chanukah party, you can have a look atthese instructionsin advance. No need to master the rules. It will all become clear as we play, but it may be helpful to be somewhat familiar with the game in advance. You can play on the same device - laptop or tablet - that you use for the Zoom call, or you can use a separate device for CodeNames. Please do NOT use your smart phone for CodeNames. Playing this game online with multiple participants is a bit of an experiment, so please bear with us! Contact Susan with questions. -Susan Berson
ZOOM LINK FOR CHANUKAH PARTY
This is a reminder that the Zoom link for the Chanukah party (December 13, 6:00 pm) will be the same link as Shabbat Services (December 12). Hope to see everyone at both Shabbat services and at the party the next day.
EDAH AT HOME
Susan and Steve would like to let you know about Edah, the wonderful Jewish after-school program for Judaica and Hebrew that their grandchildren are part of in Berkeley. Since almost everything is now online, children from Denver or elsewhere can join in too. Have a look at their website to see what’s on offer, or call Susan.
Joan Baronberg shared with me this link to a nice talk from the Tikvah foundation on Israel and the Russian Aliyah. I think that this talk might be interesting to many others at Kohelet, so I want to share it. The audio interview can be found at the top of the web page.
DATE CHANGE FOR BOOK STUDY GROUP WITH DANIEL HETTLEMAN
We are moving the start date of our book study group with Daniel Hettleman to December 19, immediately after services. Amazon has given us a longer shipping time than we anticipated. This will give more people a chance to acquire the book and read it prior to beginning our study. We will be studying The Dignity of Differenceby the late Rabbi Sacks. Everyone is invited to join us.
The Arecibo Observatory is gone, but it has some interesting parallels with the story of the Tower of Babel in the book of Genesis. Click on the link below to learn more:
