We have been reading Psalms at Kohelet Shabbat services. We continue here sequentially with excerpts and commentary.
Psalm 22:
This is a somber study of the days of Israel’s exile and our yearning for ultimate redemption and connection with God.
My God, my God why have you forsaken me; why are you so far from saving me. I call out by day but there is no answer and at night there is no respite. In the past we have cried out and trusted you and we were answered. We know of your desire for our well-being and we will be secure with that knowledge. Be not aloof in my times of distress. Yet, the humble will eat and be satisfied and those who seek Hashem will praise Him and He will live in our hearts forever.
The future may be uncertain with periodic exile and we feel the agony as we have distanced ourselves from Hashem. We pray fervently and
confidently for our future reunion knowing Your desire for our ultimate happiness.
