ANNOUNCEMENTS
MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS
Thurs., Nov. 28 at 8:00 a.m.

Kohelet will once again be participating in the preparation and delivery of ~1500 meals for the homeless on Thanksgiving morning at Lowry Community Church (855 Yosemite).  We plan to arrive at 8am on November 28.  The work is usually finished between 11 and 12.  You don't have to stay till the end, and you can arrive late. Those who participated last year universally found the experience to be rewarding. Please let Bennett (parnesb@gmail.com) know if you plan to join us--he will keep everyone posted on any last minute details or changes.

Kohelet is partnering with many other organizations to promote November as Clean Speech Month.

Clean Speech Colorado is not just about what we say. It’s about who we are.

Speech can take many forms.  Facial expressions, gestures, or body language that convey something negative are considered lashon hara.   A thought or idea can also be posted online and someone else can “like” it.   In the old days, even a nasty rumor would only make it as far as the edge of the shtetl. Today, in milliseconds, digital lashon hara can make it all the way around the globe.  Some 21st century examples of lashon hara include:

* Posting a picture or video of someone that would embarrass them, even if you are also in it.
* “Liking” or posting a smiley face in response to such a post
*  Forwarding something hurtful or harmful, even without adding a comment.

Download the PDF booklet of your 30-day clean speech practice for many helpful insights regarding lashon hora.  For example, "daily to-do’s" such as these:

-Pay careful attention to gestures and facial expressions. Note the emotions that are communicated, even more than any words that may be said.

-Before you hit “send” or “post,” think to yourself: “How would I feel if this post were about me?”

“Tweet others the way you want to be tweeted.”
